Envision Midway: A Collaborative Planning Project
|
|
The Kent Highlands is located at the edge of a ridge that overlooks the Kent Valley and abuts the I-5 and Kent-Des Moines Road interchange to the southwest. The area is approximately 104 acres and includes a variety of businesses, a Metro Park and Ride, and the closed Kent-Highlands Landfill. Currently, this area is designated for medium density residential, commercial, and mixed-use development.
The City of Seattle Public Utilities owns and maintains the former Kent-Highlands Landfill, an approximately 137-acre facility, 76 acres of which are relocated within the Midway Study Area. The landfill closed in the 1980’s and was listed on the National Priorities List of contaminated sites (Superfund). It was remediated by SPU under Consent Agreements with EPA and Ecology in the 1990’s. The site represents major land development opportunities due to its:
-
Size and views
-
Location in a rapidly developing area
-
Proximity to a variety of transportation options
-
Near recreational opportunities in the Kent Valley |
