Midway is its own place. The future of Midway doesn't belong to any one entity. Rather, it is the responsibility of all of us to guide the future we want for Midway.
With the spirit of inclusiveness, Envision Midway was formed by the
Cities of Kent and Des Moines to reach out across city boundaries and work collectively toward a better future. Envision Midway is a diverse partnership comprised of private and public leaders who are local businesses and residents, educational institutions, neighboring cities, transportation agencies and YOU. In 2008 and 2009, we will Envision Midway through a series of meetings held by
Stakeholders Committee,
Developers Forum,
Public Open Houses & Workshops, local city planning agencies and City Councils. If you cannot attend the meetings and want to participate, we've set up a place where you can provide your comments and ideas.
The visioning ideas and comments collected through public meetings and the interactive website will be used to develop options for growing. Options could include different combinations of uses and different emphases—like recreation, entertainment, civic, commercial, office, residential—as well as a range of development intensities. These options or scenarios will be presented in a final open house in Fall 2009 to make sure they reflect what you want. Ultimately the outcome of this visioning process will be presented to the planning agencies and governing bodies of the Cities of Kent and Des Moines to be used in a manner that reflects the desires of the individual city.
By working together we can identify the vision and tools necessary to help transform Midway into a sustainable urban community that enhances commercial development and housing choices while capitalizing on the geographic location, the wide range of transportation options, educational institutions, and view opportunities.
